Shale gas in the United States unlocked cheap, abundant gas supplies, allowing the USA to become an energy exporter instead of an energy importer.
HD-LDF played an important role in the construction of the new plant, by Bechtel Corporation. Bechtel Corporation is the largest construction and civil engineering company in the United States, and is the 4th-largest privately owned company in the United States.
HD-LDF not only outperformed the world’s leading liquid leak detection fluid, we also cut the lead time for large industrial orders from sixteen weeks to less than two weeks.
Heavy-Duty Leak Detection Fluid™ Concentrate (HD-LDF-C) is a new high tech external gas leak detection fluid, in concentrated form. Each 16 oz. bottle must be diluted with water before use. Recommended dilution is 7:1 and makes one gallon.
Benefits of HD-LDF-C:
Freeze protected, freeze thaw stable, non-toxic, non-flammable, does not contain chlorine, aliphatic amine, or ammonium compounds. Made in the USA. Save time, save money and get the job done right the first time, every time, with HD-LDF-C.

Successful thin film leak testing depends on bubbles, so today we'll focus our product comparison on bubble life.
When you apply a thin film of leak detection fluid, in the presence of a leak, a bubble will form. You want the bubble to last long enough for the operator or tester to see the bubbles. Therefore, a leak detection fluid that creates long lasting bubbles is better than one that creates short lived bubbles.
Let’s look at some laboratory test data, comparing bubble life between HD-LDF-C and Snoop. The lab test method was as follows:
With this test method you create a bubble, about the size of a grapefruit. Next, you time how long the bubble lasts. Run a large number of these “bubble life” tests. Then, throw out the highest value and the lowest value. Add the bubble life times of all bubble tests and divide by the number of tests. The answer you have calculated is the average life of a bubble produced by each of the two test products.
Here are the results, measured in seconds:
Our bubble life was almost ten times longer as compared to Snoop!
The extremely long bubble life means that HD-LDF-C is easier to use, more reliable and more accurate. HD-LDF-C is a concentrate. Each bottle makes one gallon. Dilute with water.

Not with new Heavy-Duty Leak Detection Fluid. HD-LDF has much more viscosity and stays in place longer, even on vertical surfaces.
Fresno Area Express Transit Authority, Fresno California uses Heavy-Duty Leak Detection Fluid. Their technicians noticed a reduction in product required to find leaks. LDF is viscous; it resists flow and stays in place. Other leak detection fluids run off, just like water.

Corporate Sustainability involves companies embracing Best Practices to sustain and increase profitability while not harming people or the environment.
Additionally, because it’s a concentrate, there are fewer empty containers after product consumption. For example, it takes only 6 cases of HD-LDF-C to replace an entire pallet of Snoop leak detection fluid. See how much waste (in pounds) is generated from Snoop vs. HD-LDF-C in the table below:
So, does this contribute to profitability? Does it impact the bottom line for the end-user? Yes.

Heavy-Duty Leak Detection Fluid™ Concentrate. Try some today!
Natural Gas Refueling Station, California Metro Bus Fleet
Heavy-Duty Leak Detection Fluid™ (HD-LDF) is a robust leak detection fluid specifically designed to find very low flow gas leaks on all kinds of surfaces. Its application has been proven to be extremely effective in the Alternative Fuels Industry, such that fleet managers are finding their technicians request it by name and refuse other methods of leak detection with soap solutions and competitor products. The reason is simple, HD-LDF maximizes safety due to its accuracy, reduces time requirements, and on a use/cost basis it is less than half the cost of other commercial leak detection fluids.

Check out our Concentrate, HD-LDF-C, with which you can customize the viscosity desired by adjusting solution strength. Most common ratio is 7:1, but for more difficult or unique projects, consider a more concentrated solution of 4:1 ratio. “If you can’t find a leak with this stuff, you don’t have one.”
Thanks to a valued LDF client for sharing with us that he proved our Heavy-Duty Leak Detection Fluid™ Concentrate (HD-LDF-C) diluted to a 4:1 ratio, outperformed competitive products in temperatures as low as -15 ⁰Celsius (5 ⁰Fahrenheit).
Many customers have inquired about the suitability of using HD-LDF-C and Heavy-Duty Leak Detection Fluid™ Ready to Use (HD-LDF-RTU) in an environment with freezing conditions. Since much of the leak detection work is conducted outdoors, or in refrigerated areas, performance can be impacted if exposure to extremely cold or freezing temperatures prevents the applied leak detection fluid from forming bubbles in response to the gas leaks it is intended to find.
You too can benefit from this information by using our HD-LDF-C and custom blending at a 4:1 ratio at your location. It easy, just prepare a solution with 4 parts water to 1 part HD-LDF-C. Additionally, we offer HD-LDF-RTU (Ready to Use) in a 4:1 solution in a 55 gallon drum.

“If you can’t find a leak with this stuff, you don’t have one.”
We worked closely with this customer to determine that this dilution would be best for them. They like the more viscous solution blend because it covers large areas, for example over a large flange, and therefore gives more reliable results.
Here are some highlights from our conversation:
We were using Snoop, available from Grainger, prior to discovering HD-LDF.
We have tried a sonic tester, but our building/facility is too loud for that to work very well.
We use a 32 oz squeeze bottle, like this one, to apply our leak detection fluid to areas suspected of having a gas leak. They’re technically called “wash bottles” and are available for sale through Grainger, here. We've tried regular pump spray bottles (the type of bottle something like Windex comes in), but they do not work at all for our application. They create bubbles as you spray and do not give a good coating or fill up the flange gap we are checking. |
We pressurize our systems with both air and Argon, depending on where we are in our process.
Bubbles form around the site of a gas leak within seconds, or up to 1-2 minutes for very small leaks to create enough foam to be easily visible. Large leaks create large bubbles, small leaks create small bubbles, and tiny leaks create foam.

How dilution works:
HD-LDF-C is meant to be diluted with tap water, bottle water or distilled water for your specific needs.
For gas leaks in a traditional environment, our recommended starting point for dilution is 7:1. Start with one 16 fl oz bottle of HD-LDF-C, which is 2 cups of concentrate and add to 14 cups of water. Final result is one gallon of high tech leak detection fluid. Keep in mind – there’s no reason you need to prepare the entire bottle at once. Feel free to save some for later!
Some difficult applications require a more viscous solution. In that case we recommend a 4:1 dilution. This more viscous solution is ideal for vertical surfaces, large gaps, slippery materials of construction, and other challenging requirements.
Now let’s look at price. When we compare the cost of HD-LDF-C to Snoop, HD-LDF-C is the clear winner:
HD-LDF-C is non-toxic, non-flammable, freeze protected and freeze thaw stable. HD-LDF-C does not contain free amine, chlorine or ammonia. HD-LDF-C is made in the USA.
Conclusion:
Try HD-LDF-C today. Purchase concentrate by the bottle or a case of 24. Or try our 55 gallon drums of HD-LDF in a 7/1 ready to use formulation or 4/1 ready to use formulation. Both are designed for your convenience.
